Mt Coonowrin -Glasshouse Mountains
My painting of Mt Coonowrin is a finalist in 2017 Queensland Regional Art Awards.
The iconic Glasshouse Mountains are the cores of huge volcanoes that erupted many centuries ago. They were named 'Glasshouse" by Captain Cook when he sailed up the Q!ld coast in 1770.
The local Aboriginals called this mountain 'Coonowrin' and it had special meaning for the local tribes who frequented the area.
Driving from Noosa to Brisbane as I do regularly I often see Mt Coonowrin silhouetted against a blazing sunset. Here I have used 'artistic license' to add to the drama of this craggy mountain.
