After my marriage in 1970 I travelled extensively with my husband, Bruce, while he worked in the Pacific Islands. For the past
10 years, the memories of the emotive qualities that first shaped my initial perceptions from the early happy days in Fiji, Vanuatu,
New Caledonia, Tonga and Western Samoa, have been remembered in my series of Pacific Island paintings, drawings and
sculptures. The outcome is a large body of richly textured and expressive works encapsulating, for me, the Spirit of the Pacific Islands.
Like other artists, such as Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse and Ray Crooke, I have also been strongly influenced by my time in the
Pacific Islands. However, for me, their images are from the male artist's perspective while my images reflect my empathy with
the day to day lives of the women and children of the Islands as they go about their daily tasks.
